Tommy Thompson Trail with option for Cap Sante Summit and Marine Stadium

9:00 am to 1:00 pm

The Tommy Thompson Trail from the parking lot by the RV park to the end of the trestle is 3.8 miles one way on asphalt. The trail follows an abandoned corridor of the old Burlington Northern Railway. Meet at 9:00 am in the parking lot by the RV park at Cap Sante Marina. From there, head around the marina and through a business district and industrial area. After passing through the urban landscape, you are rewarded with a view of Mount Baker rising over Fidalgo Bay. The trail's highlight is the railway trestle, nearly 0.5 miles long, across the bay to March Point. Watch for seabirds in the bay. When you get back to your car, you have the option of adding the Kiwanis Viewpoint Trail up to the top of Cap Sante and either returning back down the Kiwanis Viewpoint Trail or crossing the road near the summit to take the Marine Stadium Trail to 5th Street. Then turn left on 5th Street and left again on T Avenue to return to the parking lot. Return times will vary depending on the routes chosen. You may leave when all in your car are returned to the trailhead. A map of the Cap Sante trails will be provided the week of the hike. Dogs allowed on leash. To plot the Tommy Thompson Trail on Google maps, use the Anacortes Yacht Club as a starting point and Tommy Thompson Trail, MARCH’S POINT RD, Anacortes, as the end point.
