Who We Are

Skagit Audubon Society (SAS) has been serving the Skagit County region since 1983 and is one of 25 Audubon chapters in Washington State, and one of nearly 500 chapters of the National Audubon Society.

SAS is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, non-profit organization.

Our Mission

Our mission is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and the earth’s biological diversity.

Skagit Audubon Society works hard to increase public appreciation for birds and wildlife and their habitat in a variety of ways including:

  •    Monthly programs by informative speakers on a variety of wildlife and conservation topics

  •    Birding field trips and weekly hikes

  •    The Skagit Flyer  is published monthly, September through June

  •    A variety of educational programs in schools and the community

  •    Focus on conservation issues in Skagit County and in our region

What Membership Provides

We welcome the public to join us in these activities as we watch birds, protect habitat and connect with nature.

Skagit Audubon membership provides a local chapter affiliation and our monthly newsletter, The Skagit Flyer, for individuals who want 100% of their funds to directly benefit local chapter conservation, education, and community programs.

When & Where We Meet

  • General Membership Meetings: Held at 7:00 PM on the second Tuesday of the month, September through June.

  • Meeting Formats: To accommodate our community, some meetings are presented in-person at the Padilla Bay Interpretive Center (10441 Bayview-Edison Rd., Mt. Vernon), while other meetings are hosted online via Zoom only.

  • Board of Directors Meetings: The board meets at 7:00 PM on the first Tuesday of the month, September through June.

Our chapter newsletter is produced electronically on a monthly basis from September through June. You can read current issues and explore our publication archives anytime at www.skagitaudubon.org/newsletter.

Community Health & Wellness Statement

To foster good community health and protect our more vulnerable citizens, all those who plan to participate in our group activities and field trips are asked to stay up to date on their vaccinations and stay home if they are feeling unwell. Thank you for helping us keep our outdoor community safe!
