MEETING TIME AND PLACE Meet at the Food Pavilion parking lot in Sedro-Woolley before 7:30 am to sign in and arrange carpools.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS It takes about an hour to drive to the trailhead. From Sedro-Woolley, drive Highway 20 for 14.5 miles and take a left on Baker Lake Road. After 12.5 miles, just after a bridge, take gravel road FR 12 for Schrieber’s Meadows. After 3 miles, at the junction, turn right onto FR 13. Drive 6 miles to the trailhead at 3200 ft. You are at the Schrieber’s Meadow parking area, which serves as the trailhead for the Park Butte, Railroad Grade and Scott Paul trails.
HIKE DESCRIPTION From the parking lot trailhead, hike across the bridge over Sulphur Creek and on into Schrieber’s Meadows. The trail enters forest and reaches the Rocky Creek area. The first major stream is spanned by a seasonal suspension bridge. After crossing the stream, stay on the trail, which soon comes to another significant stream. Crossing is usually easier downstream from the trail. Once across the stream, follow it back uphill to intersect with the trail. The trail continues through the rocky area and abruptly changes to direct as you enter the forest. After ascending through the forest, you meet the intersection with the Scott Paul Trail. At the junction with the Scott Paul Trail, continue left and enter Morovitz Meadow. In 0.4 miles, pass the junction with the Railroad Grade Trail and ascend to a series of tarns and on to the lookout at 5,450 feet elevation. The hike to the lookout and back is 7.5 miles with 2,200 ft of elevation gain.
RETURN TIME 4:00 pm. Wait for all to return safely before leaving.
Outhouse at trailhead. No dogs. Northwest Forest Pass required. To check for weather, road, and trail conditions, visit Park Butte — Washington Trails Association.
