MEETING TIME AND PLACE Meet at 8:00 am in the Mount Vernon Safeway parking lot near the gas station to sign-in and arrange car pools. If you are driving across the bridge in downtown Mount Vernon, check for delays.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS It will take about an hour to drive to the trailhead. Drive south on I-5 to exit 200 for 88th Street NE/Quil Ceda Way. Turn left onto 88th St NE. After 8.3 miles, Turn left onto WA-92 E. Take Hwy 92 to Granite Falls, where it ends and becomes E Stanley Street. Go east 0.3 miles, then turn left (north) onto N Alder Avenue, which turns into the Mountain Loop Highway. 10.6 miles later, enter the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. 2.1 miles past the entrance to the Forest, pass over Twentytwo Creek, and 0.4 miles farther, turn right at the entry for the Lake Twentytwo trailhead. The parking area is located around a gravel loop and holds nearly 50 cars.
HIKE DESCRIPTION Hike to a lake in a basin carved into cliffs off the Mountain Loop Highway. 5.5 miles round trip, 1400 ft elevation gain. Big trees, waterfalls; hike around the lake and add 1.2 miles to the hike. The trail is rocky and rooty in places.
RETURN TIME 2:30 pm return time to trailhead. You may leave when all in your car are returned.
Northwest Forest Pass required. Dogs allowed on leash. Outhouse at trailhead. In these days of budget cuts, it might be an idea to bring your own toilet paper.
