Watching birds, protecting habitat, connecting with nature

Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary, BC, February 21, 2019

Trip Leader: Ron Holmes

The day of this field trip we had beautiful weather. Air temperature was cool, and sky was clear and blue. The sunshine felt good to us. The Black-crowned Night Herons were there along with the Sandhill Cranes. Plenty of waterfowl to see and get up close and personal with, included Wood Ducks, Mallards, Gadwall, American Wigeon, Ring-necked Duck and American Coot. The Passerines were represented by Black-capped Chickadee, Bushtit, Red-winged Blackbird plus Golden-crowned, Song, and Fox Sparrows and Spotted Towhee. Raptors we saw were Bald Eagle, Northern Harrier and a Peregrine Falcon. Lots of fun to watch the ducks landing on ice-covered ponds J. A good time was had by all.
