Moses Coulee Outing
On Easter weekend 2019 18 intrepid Skagit Audubon members gathered at the Whisper Lake Lodge in Moses Coulee. We shared the rocks, flowers and birds of the area while enjoying several potlucks and even an evening sing along. Libby Mills led a bird walk at Sun Lakes State Park on Friday and Scott Peterson wrapped it up with a short talk about the geology of the area. Saturday was for exploring as we headed off in multiple directions looking for flowers, birding opportunities and just enjoying the incredible landscape of the coulees and channel scablands. Some of our crew started to disperse on Sunday while others found some hiking opportunities and birding adventures. All totaled, we tallied 94 different species of birds over the four days and multiple locations. Skagit Audubon greatly appreciates the opportunity offered by The Nature Conservancy in opening up the Whisper Lake Lodge for our weekend. A few of the highlights from the weekend;
A prairie falcon pair in Northrop Canyon, a whirlwind of hundreds of swallows on Saturday night, a great horned owl near the Whisper Lake Lodge,
